Of the two varieties of Indian gooseberry, the Jaffna Nelli Crush is made from the round greenish-yellow variety. Known as “Beheth Nelli” in Sinhala and “Topu Nelli” in Tamil, it has a distinct taste of bitter and sweet, pungent and astringent.
